Why is registration of my Russian visa so important?
Registration is the process of validating your visa, and registering your presence in Russia. The law states that all visitors passports and visas have to be registered within 72 hours (3 working days) of arriving in Russia.
Before you pass through passport control you are required to complete an immigration card. Complete BOTH sections. The first half of the card is retained by passport control and the second half is returned to you. It is this second half you must have stamped to validate your visa. This immigration card is an important document, almost as important as your visa, and should be carried with your passport for the duration of your stay.
You maybe fined by the police if any of the supporting documentation is missing when they conduct document checks.
