Russian Visa Requirements

Tourist visas

Passport (Original) with at least at 2 blank visa designated pages (passports must be valid for at least six months after intended date of departure from Russia)
Visa Application form: completed in FULL and signed
Passport photograph: 1 photograph (head and shoulders)

If part of a tour group or cruise passenger: letter from tour company or cruise line confirming and including a copy of the confirmation from the authorized Russian travel company with reference number and confirmation number for the visa (two documents)

If individual travel: Confirmation of hotel arrangements from the authorized Russian tour company or directly form the hotel, showing the reference number and confirmation number (two documents).

Business Visas

Passport (Original) with at least at 2 blank visa designated pages (passports must be valid for at least six months after intended date of departure from Russia)
Visa Application form: completed in FULL and signed
Passport photograph: 1 photograph (head and shoulders)
Official invitation: this must either be via telex or copy from the Ministry of foreign affairs or the internal affairs in Russia (for multiple entry invitations these must be original, if not via the telex system from the ministry.
Company support letter: this must come from the company that the applicant works for and needs to outline the requested visa applied for, the inviting organization, the proposed dates of travel and that the company will financially support the application (faxed copies are fine)
In the case of Entry only visas a valid HIV certificates is required, no more than 30 days old.

Private Visas (izvesheniye)

This must be organized by a Russian citizen who must apply to the local Uvir in Russia. Your host will have to send you the original document, once completed and needs to know:

Your full name and address in the UK
Nationality, passport number, date of birth, and your proposed date of arrival in Russia.
(The cost of the Ovir application is about $35. allow 4-6 weeks for OVIR approval.)

Transit visas

A transit visa may be obtained when you are traveling to another country through Russian territory. A maximum of 72 hrs is the longest period the visa will be granted for, but is issued for the period of your transit time in Russia. An application form completed, along with your passport, 1 passport photograph and the original airline ticket. The consulate also requires evidence of the visa for the country of destination, prior to the application for a Russian transit visa, if applicable.
